Metrasens was a new company spun-out from the world’s leading defence technology and security organisation Qinetiq to exploit a unique metal detection technology. Metrasens had refined the necessary detection system and components but needed to turn their prototype unit into a commercial proposition to exploit its market potential in civilian security and hospital environments.
Industry Production Experience
Smallfry’s experience in a wide range of production and prototyping techniques allowed us to select the most appropriate manufacturing techniques and
source suppliers to keep the product cost low and at the same time greatly improve the assembly time and adjustability of the components for accurate set-up.
Unique Detection System
The Ferroguard metal detection system is unique in that it does not generate a magnetic field of its own (as traditional metal detectors do) but instead senses the small changes in the magnetic flux in the environment around it.
Design for Manufacture
Manufacturing techniques were carefully selected to suit low volume batch production whilst achieving a high value appearance, with the feasibility reviewed through the production of in-house prototyping.
“Smallfry brought a level of elegance and sophistication to our product that has received great reactions from our customers. Their sourcing and manufacturing knowledge has undoubtedly helped us improve our commercial proposition and delivered real competitive advantage.” Metrasens’ CEO Dr Simon Goodyear
