Control Techniques
Unidrive Systems

A Flagship Update

Control Techniques wanted to replace their flagship Unidrive range with a new targeted product range. Our challenge was to set the design standard for the range that will carry CT and its Emerson partners forwards into the next decade.

Initial Concepts

Transforming initial hand drawn concepts into detailed designs, aligned with Control Technique’s brief was carried out using Photoshop rendering techniques to produce a client-ready proposal.

Concept Development

Working with global development teams in the UK, USA, India and China, Smallfry’s design team iteratively developed the market-leading product design that combines fresh styling, simple user interface whilst meeting the demanding requirements for ingress protection, creepage, clearances and heat dissipation.

Rapid Prototyping

In order to provide Control Techniques with a tangible representation of the final products prior to tooling, selectively laser sintered nylon prototypes were sourced by Smallfry.

The Outcome

Developed in record time, the new Unidrive M range was launched in November 2012 and is the most advanced product CT have yet produced, targeting customer needs more thoroughly than ever before.
